Did a little work earlier today for my cheap heavy barrel upper. (Formerly a 5.56 mid-length nightmare.)
The barrel (heavy 20" 5.56 1:9") and 0.936" gas block came in this afternoon.
The fit between the two wasn't stellar, but good enough.
The triangular handguard cap that I modified earlier in the day (for the 0.936" gas block seat) fit nicely.
Knowing that the gas tube I had on hand was rifle length, I didn't bother with mocking up the tube.
I cleaned everything up, pinned the tube in the gas block, torqued the barrel, slid the cap over the tube, slid the gas block/tube/cap assembly over the barrel, and....
Facepalm...
It's a mid-length gas tube.
So, I snugged up the gas block for the time being, and threw the A2 handguards on before it went back in the safe -- awaiting a rifle-length gas tube.
The cap.
(Scribed a line. Hit it with a rotary tool with 100 grit sanding drums. Dressed it with a file. Not going to bother touching up the finish with more than a Sharpie. Oil to prevent rust will be good enough.)
