Can someone please tell me how to take a M1917 bolt down, I got the firing pin, spring and cocking piece assembly out of the bolt body but how do I take it apart further, is it like a mauser.

Yes. Put the firing pin tip down on a wood block (or through a hole in the block), push down on the bolt sleeve and turn the cocking piece 90 degrees either way. (And hold on for dear life to keep the whole forschlingen mess under control.)

A tip for starting disassembly. Retract the bolt. Set the safety on (back). Close the bolt slowly until there is a gap between the cocking piece and the bolt sleeve. Insert a penny into the gap. Let up on the bolt and remove it in the normal manner. Unscrew the bolt sleeve. This is normally enough for cleaning and inspection.
