My handgun collection has a few holes in it so I've decided to put a 1911 on my short list. I've shot a few and handled a bunch, but my knowledge is limited. Right now I'm leaning towards a full size Colt. After looking around I've noticed that there are quite a few different models (i.e. Series 70, Mark IV, Series 80, 1991 A1, etc.) Can someone give me a short rundown on what the different variations are? Thanks!

I'll start with one major variation: the firing pin lock added to the Series 80.
I have no problem with it, a little twitch when detail stripping, but no big-deal...Some feel this addition makes the Series 70 more superior...
