[hey, I tried the search option first]
An early colt pistol just surfaced the night before an estate sale and I need some info, Please?
.22 long rifle
ser# 28,xxx (pat dates 1903,1918,1918)
6.5" round barrel, adj front and rear sights. Checkered walnut grip panels with diamond at single screw. Checkered backstrap.
one 10 round mag (temper line?) with roller-type mag release at grip heel. Beautiful blueing.
condition 95% or better. No box or papers.
I am assuming this to be an early woodsman? (wasn't there a few years before the "woodsman" name was adopted?)
Value? (help!) This may be able to be bought privately before the auction at 10AM tomorrow (Sat April 28th)
TIA

Can't help much but the following is out of a blue book that is about 9 yrs old
Pre-woodsman
22 lr,6 1/2 in barrel.Mfg 1915 to 1927.Production totaled about 54,000,this model was officaly named"colt .22 automatic target pistol"(and so was stamped on mag base")
95%--500
98%--695

This model was manufactured to use standard velocity ammunition only.Colt did offer a coversion kit for hi vel ammo after the transition to HV in 1932.Woodmans manufactured between 1915-1922 had a lightweight pencil barrel(app serial range 1-31000).The medium barrel was introduced app 1922 and was retained until the 90,000 serial number range(app mfg 1922-1934)
I know this info is very minumal but I hope it helps.Remember the book is app 9 yrs old so prices have probably increased.
Good luck with gun

Thanks Bob, This has the light barrel so is 1918-1922 mfg.
Now I'm really hoping to get current value. (I think this would look good alongside my 1939 and 1941 woodsmans!)
