I was just wondering if anyone knows exactly why Remington, Winchester, and Federal 8x57 Mauser bullets are loaded so light.
They are firing at about 30 30 velocity.
Kind of ruins it to shoot them in an Iron Sighted Mauser, where the minimal setting on the sight is 200 Yards.
Does Anyone load to 2800 FPS, with an Expanding Bullet and non corrosive primers.

Because they are afraid of stupid people firing 7.92x57mm IS ammo with a .323-inch bore in very old pre-98 Mausers chambered in the 7.92x57mm I with a .318-inch bore.

Actually it is not their fault, it is the fault of SAAMI for having such a low MAP, 35,000 PSI, on the 8mm, making US loaded ammo largely useless in these rifles.

Makes sense, I will try the S&B Brand, I will not pay thirty dollars a box for weak ammo. I also heard the Michells Mauser ammo is pretty hot.
I plan to hunt hogs, with the Mauser, with its Iron Sights.

I wouldn't call it useless...

Its a great source of cases, if a bit spendy, and gives you shooting practice too! Also, its far from nearly useless. So your only getting 2400fps and change with a 180gr? Several fine rounds only give you that much. Not useless, just not up to full potential.

It seems to have been the unwritten rule, that US ammo makers have traditionally underloaded their ammo in several European calibers, rifle and pistol. And this was in the days when a lawsuit was a lot less likely!

Personally, I think it was a suble way of trade protection, to make European guns less attractive to the buyer, and when SAAMI came along, they just adoopted the standards in use at the time. But I could be wrong, ;)

Shoot European made ammo for max performance, or, carefully handload your own, to the strength of your rifle, if you want the most you can get.

It would be hard to use the Sights correctly on the Mauser with low velocity rounds, the 180 at 2400 with a good soft point would be a great deer load though, alot of walop.

I enjoy the Igman and prvi stuff from yugoslavia. Good modern fully loaded stuff. 8-12 bucks a box depending on which mail order you use.

Federal, Remington, and Winchester loads are SAMMI spec to be compatible with 8x57J (.318 caliber) rifles. This is on par performance with 30-30 Winchester.

S&B is 196gr loaded to CIP, the European standard.

Nosler data has their 200gr Accubond and 200gr Partition running 2700fps with compressed load of IMR 4350. Which is slightly faster than the 200gr 30-06 loads.

I have been using Varget for loads 125gr(3100fps), 150gr(2900fps), and 200gr(2600fps).
