Dovetail sight pusher for rifle rear sight

Is there such a thing as a dovetail rear sight pusher for lever action rifles, other than punch and hammer, that can be used easily in real time at the range? All pushers seem to be for handguns.

Yes, there are so-called "universal" sight pushers, supposedly good at everything from handguns to bazookas. In all practicality, none of them work as well on rifles as a brass punch and a small hammer. But they're out there! I have 2 of them, one I paid about $50 for, the other one was way more expensive (I'm actually kind of embarrassed to tell how much I paid for the POS).

Yes.
Get a brass drift (or chunk of scrap brass) and the same hammer.
Much better than a punch.

To produce thousands of pounds force can be easily done with a screw. The problem is to secure the frame to maintain stationary while the force is being applied. Every pusher is trying to do just that. Only few do a good enough job. Rifle is hard for the pusher to straddle. Hammer and punch usually works better.

I like aluminum rod driven with big hammer. A serious wack to break it loose, followed by lighter taps to adjust. With this scheme, supporting the frame becomes critical. Again the frame needs to remain stationary. The best support I found is block of lead.

"...and a small hammer..." A plastic mallet not a steel hammer.
Commercial sight pushers are horrendously expensive too. Anyway lever actions are usually adjusted by moving the front sight.

Yes, I agree that adjusting the front sight would be better when drifting the rear is so difficult on some lever actions.

If you have V blocks, you can mount the barrel in a mill vise and use a brass drift held in the quill of the mill to push the rear sight.

Right on, but hoping to find something that could be used right on the spot while at the range. The design problem for a rifle rear sight drifter as I see it has to do with having to clear the stock to keep from damaging the stock. I have a sight drifter for handguns but just won't work on rifles. So just continue I guess with the old Pleistocene mallet and punch tools. C'mon Fred and Barney, where are you when you are needed for a new invention?
