Don Kates has died

From his mailing list:

It saddens me to bear bad news, but as some of you may
already know, Don
Kates passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2016. While Don had a long
struggle with his health issues, he bore it all with great dignity. He
was given the highest quality care and was comforted throughout by his
wife and close friends. A more formal announcement and tribute may be
planned for later, but the family wanted to inform his friends in the
Second Amendment and Academic Communities now. There will be a small
service attended by family and friends in Washington state on Saturday,
November 5, 2016. We regret the short notice at this point but plans
were in flux and just finalized late yesterday.

As you may or may not know, Don was a crucial figure in the fight for gun rights in the legislatures and courts. I had read his work but met him at the Academics for the 2nd Amend. Conference years ago. I then saw him at the American Society for Criminology Meetings. We went to dinner a few times. He was truly a great support for the RKBA and a wonderful guy. It's a real loss.

Well, that is sad news. He was an extremely eloquent defender of all civil rights; but he was an important contributor to protecting the Second Amendment.

Although I didn't know him, I want to send my condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

Well worth reading anything Mr. Kates wrote! One heck of a legacy he left in words and deed and the battle he took on.

I'm glad he lived, fought (OK, "argued" a point) and wrote.

Condolences to his family and friends on his passing.
