Does anyone Reload 45ACP rounds less than 165gr?

Just out of Curiousity. I have seen some factory loads under 165gr lately and I found it incredible Bizarre. If you do what Kind of accuracy are you getting? Can the 165gr 45ACP exceed 40cal 165gr pressures?

I see a lot fo 165gr Hydra-Shoks out there for the 45ACP. I was just wondering how that compares to 40cal 165gr rounds. Does anyone know where I can get 165gr HP for reloading?

I've a partial box of 155 LSWC bullets in .45 ACP. But I think we are talking about different things.

I managed a load of AA5 that worked the action. MV was around 1050 or so. Recoil was light but abrupt. Felt very strange for a 45 awfulmatic.

Accuracy is good. But I've only shot it on indoor 50 foot ranges. I think it may work for bullseye shooting.
But this probably is not what you seek, correct?

I was searching the World Wide Web yesterday and stubled upon some IQ ammo that was something like 105grs or somewhere way down there. I was wondering how you could go that low and end up with a "Round" ball of ammo. For the 45 diameter I would wonder if the bullet would look more like a Pie than a Ball.

Need for 45 speed?

I have bullets I make and have driven 87 gr ones at 1930 fps and 103 gr ones at 1880 fps out of a fully supported 1911.

These are made from the bottom half of 45 acp cases with hotglue cores. The cases used to load them were R-P and I would give the powder type; but, I am forbidden from mentioning it.

It was interesting to play with but not very practical.

There is a reason why there are so many of those 165 grain HS PD rounds . . . they suck.

Heck, 9mm rounds go up to 147 grains.

40Sw has some nice loads in the 155-165 range. ProLoad, Sabres, Gold Dots and the like.

!0mm even hotter and better.

In 45 ACP, the round doesn't really start to shine until the 185 and even better, best, the 200 grain LSWC round for bullseye shooters at 50 yards out.

Let some other chumps work on the anemic 165 grainers.

But for SD, if you want light, get the 200 grain Gold Dot JHPs. Flying ashtrays.

But that other stuff is like Tricks, for kids!

Thats what I say!!! Every single Gunshop in the area only carries the 165gr Hydra-Shoks. I don't get that:confused: I carry 230gr Ball ammo. I did have some 230HP but I shot them all up:D

I've been crankin out blue tip safety slugs at 140 & 145 gr, and had reasonable results, but am a big believer in momentum so have switched to capping them with a 00 buckshot instead of the lightweight blue plastic cap, which is also cheaper. They're falling out at 185 gr now, but serious testing has stopped due to my chrony catching one accidently...:(

45ACP light bullets

I have a pet load 152 gr LSWC which shine brilliantly for conventional bullseye shooting. Very comfy to shoot too. Depends on what you're shooting at.

For IPSC race guns

They load a 155gr hard cast SWC, at darn good velocities. The bullet is basically a shortened Hensley & Gibbs #68, looking a lot like it's 200 grain big brother. With this light a bullet, and a heavy charge of powder, there's a lot of gas pressure developed, which makes the compensators and muzzle brakes on the IPSC unlimiteds work just spiffy. These guns just plain don't flip in recoil, they come straight back. If you see one of these .45's in action, it will remind one of a German steam locomotive being strafed by a P-47 Thunderbolt, an explosion of smoke coming straight up out of the stack.

I've got a bunch of the 155's, and loaded them for my 3.5" Caspian Officer's ACP. Giddyup, but oh, my, the flash!;)
