Do You Need The Lowered And Flared Ejection Port?

This topic results from the string Rinco 1911 prob on the CanadianGunNutz.com and the following response: "Does your Norinco allready have the lowered and flared ejection port?" My response is my Ballester-Molina, a pistol that is very similar to a 1911, works great without a lowered and flared ejection port. I prefer the looks of a lowered and flared ejection port but I do not think they add to function. What is your take? Regards, Richard

It isn't needed for most production guns, I think. But some 1911 modifications have become so ubiquitous that everybody makes the mod standard.

Lowered ports have nothing to do with function, they're there to reduce case mouth dents on ejection.

Some B/Ms actually need the port opened, as it is difficult to eject an unfired round.
The modification you are speaking of keeps the fired brass from being dinged on ejection.

If the pistol has ejection problems and things are hanging up in there, sure, but if it ain't broke don't fix it.
