Dillon Press - Aftermarket additions.

The nice thing about a Dillon press is if you want to go the extra mile there are more than enough after market products to outfit your reloader. There is nothing wrong about any stock machine. However the auto industry has made another whole market for people that don't like stock cars and trucks.

Note: I expect some static about different brands of presses but really this is just to inform people about some great add ons for the Dillon presses. When I get some time I will start one for Hornady too.

Here are some links to some good products that may fill a need for you.

I use a Hornady drum-type powder measure, with Hornady's case-activated kit, for all bottleneck reloading on my 650.

I think I’ll keep the fail safe device on my powder measure that one makes about as much sense as cutting the seatbelts out of your new car. That’s a disservice to post that link IMO.

The Mr. Dial can be done with a plastic knob for pennies but they and the uniquetek dials make it easier for the charge to be unintentionally changed, I just buy extra bars and swap them out when I change powders. I do use one of the plastic knobs at the range when I develop a new load though.

The GSI feeders are top notch but the collator doesn’t work as well as the KISS collator but the KISS feeder makes you loose the powder check die, so a mix of the two systems works best.

The PW auto drive is one you shouldn’t leave out if you’re talking Dillon gizmos. It’s not as fast as running the machine manually but does cut the time in half as I can case gauge concurrent with the loading process.

I will note on the powder measure you are simply making it work like the older powder measures. I will also note that while they did redesign this powder measure they never recalled the older powder measures. They never stated that the older powder measures are unsafe and should not be used.

If it was in fact a major safety design flaw they would have recalled the older powder measure, which they did not.

My powder measures are all of the original design which is the same as the link retrofits them back to.

I also use different powder measures on my presses, in fact I have the Dillon on my Hornady right now. It is nice when you can cross over between the manufactures to fill a need.

I have a UniqueTek micrometer on each of my Dillon powder measures and I find them to be a big improvement.

I haven't noticed that they are easy to accidentally change. What I did note was that the settings aren't identical between powder measures for identical charges. UniqueTek advises this in their instructions, I believe. They just don't zero at exactly the same reading.

(I have engraved a "serial number" on each measure, so I can correlate my reloading log data with the measure if I ever get them mixed up. This isn't likely, as I have one set up on each toolhead, but it would be a real pain if I accidentally had two off and empty at the same time. They look identical. :) )

That is why I said it would be like cutting the seat belts our of your new car, my pre '63 cars didn't come with them and were not recalled. Dillon did retrofit my old measures to the new fail safe measure for free. I guess it's one of those things that you don't need until it's too late.

Gamaliel has the auto drive for $789.

The RCBS and Mr Bullet/KISS feeders are cheaper than the GSI by about a third of the price. The RCBS and KISS are the same design.
