Dealer samples

What are the differences between a pre-86 dealer sample and a post-86 dealer sample?

Many of the samples I see require a letter from a law enforcement agency or the military.

Question? a Model D BAR dealer sample for 2000 bucks. That's durn cheap by today's standards. OK. You manage to get a LEA letter. Come on. Where you gonna find enough Model D BAR's to fill any order? For that matter, who's gonna want them if you do find them? Can these weapons still be imported if you have a LEA buyer?

Class III license is what? $500 per annum?

From my understanding, a post-86 sample requires a letter from a LEO buyer and a pre-86 sample does not. A dealer can import post-86 samples if he has a letter for demonstration. And the license is $500/yr.

Also as I understand it a dealer may keep a pre 86 sample after he gives up his SOT status. However a post dealer sample has to be sold.
Hope this helps
