I'm looking at a cz 720 26" brl.
can I cut 3 " off the barrel and reinstall
the bead and still shoot to point of aim.
I understand it will be a cylinder bore, which
I use on upland birds anyway.

You can but why? You'll swing much better with a longer barrel. The old wives tale about having a short "quick pointing" shotgun has gone the way of the dodo bird. Even skeet shooters these days are using longer barreled shotguns.

I had a 28" barrel on my browning and the gunsmith cut it back
4" . tapped it for Briley chokes and re-installed the bead.
I don't know why you would suggest that. Can you
elaborate please.

Some folk just find they don't need a bead and it can cause problems when they look at the bead instead of focusing on the target. Many who are not cutting their barrels remove the bead for that reason.
