Coyote looking for love.

Saw something odd on the way home tonight.

I was driving along and happened to look over to my left and there was a dog tied up under a security light with the dog box and everything. Looked to be some kind of boxer.

The dog was out of the box staring at a coyote about 3 feet from him. Or her?

They were just kind of standing there staring at each other. No hair standing up. No signs of aggressiveness from either of them.

It sure looked like they were about to get it on lol.

Just thought it was funny since there have been a couple recent threads here about coydogs.

My gut instinct was "Wow, that coyote is getting ready to mount that dog.".

Coyotes are known for acting friendly to a dog as a trap. They try to lure the dog to the rest of the pack where they attack and kill the dog. Can't say as I was not there, but I don't trust any wild animals.

Yeah idk. Maybe I'll drive out there tomorrow and warn the owner.

Damn things are thick here.

I used to be able to turkey hunt on my land, but I think the coyotes ran them off. Haven't seen a turkey for a few years now.

It was always good rabbit hunting here also. Not anymore.

I mentioned coyotes being friendly to dogs to lure them to the pack where the dog is attacked and usually killed. Coyotes are knows for doing this in parks where people walk their dogs and also farm land where there are farm dogs. A pack tried to fool dad's dog, but thankfully he did not take their bait.

Here the roles are reversed. The dogs act friendly towards the coyotes and bring them closer to the shooter.

Dogs and coyotes do mate. Before coyotes became as plentiful as they are now it was not uncommon to encounter a mix. We called them coydogs when I was a kid in west central MO.

several years ago, I lived in the Country, I had a Yard Dog, that just ran loose.
he was no trouble to anyone, more or less a Mongral, well one evening I stepped out of the house and he came up in the yard, with a cyote, when the Cyote saw me, he took off and my dog came to me. I thought it was strange, but I have seen it with my own eyes.
