Coyote Hunting Question ???

Went deer scouting and squirrel hunting on my buddie's land today. Had a total of four Coyotes walk in on me. Three at 10yds and one at about 25yds.
They did not see or hear me, they were out just walking about the place. Did not see or hear as many squirrels as I usually do but perhaps I'm reading too much into this situation. The fourth coyote was one of the biggest males I have ever seen. Made me kind of nervous after the fact.

Now, I have group hunted for coyotes before where basically you have blockers and drivers and we have gotten a few. But have never hunted them one on one. Figuring we want to thin them out a bit. What suggestions would you have on hunting this way? Basically hunting river bottom land, lime stone bluffs and wooded fingers coming up from the river bottom that end in pasture land. Might be able to get the land owner and a hunting buddy to take part in the hunt.

Any and all help would be appreciated and I thank you !!

Learn to call or get a small electronic call like the Cass Creek units. There are few things more exceiting than calling in coyotes.

Thanks for your input and should I use a rifle or shotgun w/4's or buck? Do the decoys work?

Sounds like you can bait them or at least appeal to their sense of smell.

Firearm choice is a personal matter, but I prefer a rifle. That way if you miss the first shot, you are still able to follow up as the coyote moves away. Besides, I don't like skinning anaimals with a dozen holes in them.

Decoys work to distract them and keep their eyes off of you. The decoys with movement would grab their attention, non-moving ones would not, and it's always better to get their attentin off of what's around the decoy. My brother has one of the "heartbeat" decoys, and it seems to work well.
