I am visiting my family this weekend, and my step father and I were browsing through some of his old firearms, and we found a very nice condition Springfield Armory model 1873, looks like it was made in 1887 or 81, I will have to look closer, and is in very very nice condition. Still works, and the wood and metal are still looking very good, and it we have it's bayonett as well.

Anything I should know about this rifle?

Thanks.

Couple of nice finds.

Sounds like you found a model 1873 Trapdoor. There are all different models out there. I have several myself. It is a 45-70 caliber, and were used in the Indian War and the Spanish American War. If you go to the Spingfield rearch website and go to trapdoors then type in the serial number and maybe it was issued to a certain regiment. Also at that site there is an area on there that you can find out the year it was made. I have seen them in price from $300. to $3000. Good luck and let me know what you find out.
