i have a ruger sp101 357magnum, 3inch barrel. i have decided to get my conceal carry permit, what would be a good choice? i am on a strick budget so i need something that will work but be inexspensive. i have been open carrying without trouble here in ky., but i think i would feel more comfortable when i go to town if i concealed. i have lived here all my life and from time to time, there will be someone open carrying in town. the police don't even bother cause they know its legal, when i went to town the first time they checked me out to make sure i was ok(not drunk, and ran a background check to be sure i could legaly own and carry the gun) when i passed, they said they would make a note so i wouldn't be bothered again. now i go just about everywhere, but i would like to get my conceal carry permit. thanks for any help.

I've got a close cousin to your revolver, a Smith & Wesson Model 60 with a 3" barrel. That's the same caliber, similar dimensions, and nearly the same weight. (About 2 oz lighter.) I got the Silver Dollar Pancake Holster from Simply Rugged (http://www.simplyrugged.com) a couple of months ago, after my CCW arrived, and love it. It costs about $45.00, is built for the specific type of gun you have, and is versatile and excellent at concealment.

Not as inexpensive as some cheap nylon holster at the gun store, but inexpensive for what you get, and very much worth it.

Galco clip on IWB made for it or OWB L frame also from Galco.
Fobus paddle made for it will work well enough, though a lg cover shirt in nec.

+1 Sakeneko. This is also my preferred holster when carrying my 3" SP101. ;) I use the optional inside out straps and carry IWB.

Don Hume makes some very nice leather for not too much money. Have a nice IWb from them for my Taurus 850, less than $40.

Shout-out #3 for the Simply Rugged Silver Dollar Pancake. I have the shorter SP101 and that's all I want to carry since I got it and the SR pancake. I also got his pocket holster for it and use it occasionally for variety.
I too wear IWB with the Inside/Outside straps. But you could also open carry OWB of course.
Rob Leahy rocks.

BTW I also got a Cuda for my Glock 27. Love it too. Now have ordered a belt and Long Hunter for my 7-1/2" Super Blackhawk. Probably not for CCW though lol.

Here's another vote for the Simply Rugged. I got mine with the straps that also allow inside the waistband carry. For a few extra bucks it makes it a holster you can carry IWB or OWB.

Look at the Don Hume JIT. It's an OWB holster that's very well made, conceals well and can be had for under $30. I have one on my belt as I type.

I use K&D Holsters. Handmade, nice and thick leather. Comfortable and will probably last forever. Around $50 bucks.

I carry my SP101 in a Bianchi, I think it's a model 100.
