AFAIK, according to the "38SS" SN prefix, that brushed stainless Super is from about 8-10 years ago.

The bright stainless Super had a "ELCEN" SN prefix.

IIRC, those late model Colt Super .38's were made up of the last remaining parts from the “old” Colt factory - with some of the guns rumored as having gone through the Custom Shop.

Colt would tell you if you called them up.
I don't see the significance on such a recent model, but people want to know.

Jim, AFAIK, "Colt" is trying to reduce costs/calls by setting up their "new" SN website - http://www.coltsmfg.com/CustomerServices/SerialNumberLookup.aspx - which is somewhat inadequate, not giving a return for approx 75% of the SN requests submitted into the auto-response window there.

Their spokesman's anwer for the inadequacy is: "We're working on it".

Petah, I am familiar with the Colt Sometimes Lookup Servce.
In fact I fed the OP's number into it before recommending he call and pester them viva voce.
