Okay: It's Not So.
At least, not to the point where they've stopped doing business. Lots of businesses have "Financial Realignments," and other maneuvers while in business difficulties. For a time, Colt's was just almost out of the firearms business, down to half a dozen items. They're back up with some of the older products now, and have even introduced some "new" items lately--The GI spec 1911A1 model, in full WW-II trim, with pre-series 70 stuff, and also the Series 70 .45, without the firing pin lock "safety."
Their web site is still up at www.colt.com
and the INWATS line was answered when I called it a few minutes ago. I got hold of customer service and asked about refinish on an old Agent revolver. They gave me shipping instructions and said they could return the finished job in 30 to 45 days. This indicates to me that they expect to be in operation at least that long.
