The CMP program is now offering subsidized AR-15 competition level rifles and parts through their affiliated shooting organizations. The shooting association buys the rifle, and can transfer it to you, if you meet all requirements, and agree not to sell the gun for a minimum of four years...and there are other provisos..

Under the program, you could get a competition level Bushmaster (normally over $1200) for around $865, if you qualify.

The URL with info is http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Programs/AR15.htm

Looks to be VERY worth doing...I have only dry fired the competition Bushmaster AR-15...that trigger was GREAT. You can read its specs at http://www.bushmaster.com/products/dcm/pcwa2s20dcm8.htm

If you belong to a CMP affiliate, make sure the officers know about this program, and are taking advantage of it.

This sounds great. Is anyone aware of a CMP affiliated club in Houston, preferably on the north side?

Actually, you can buy AR15's in CA if they have the pistol grip removed (most dealers just took a hack saw or something and hacked the grip off of existing stock) I have seen many for sale at gun shows. at the Cow Palace

WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS!!!!!! Am I the only one who asks this question. Why are they ruining a $15 part. Haven't they ever heard of a screwdriver. The #@$^ Grip comes off with about 30 seconds worth of work. *Deep breath* Ok rant mode off. Now does anyone know why they are doing it like this. Are they just stupid?

You need something where the pistol grip is. it (the pistol grip) holds he spring for the detent for the the rear takedown pin.

plus, most of there lowers are on guns that came as complete rifles, or maybe complete lowers, so the lower was really free.
