Does anyone have any sources for and / or experience with
holsters that clip onto a belt? What's good? What's bad?

clip on sources

Like most who post here I have a bag full of holsters and have tried several "clip on" holsters. Some of them have worked very well - others not so well. The key, for me, has been to use a sturdy belt, else the rig sags and is uncomfortable. Good thing to do no matter what holster rig you use.

Two companies with which I have had good experiences are Galco and Bagmaster. Galco does leather - Bagmaster does ballistic nylon. Web sites for both follow:

Good luck

If you're looking for a slim Kydex holster, I use the
FIST Kydex, IWB, clip on, for my G19. It works very
well and the price is reasonable. I also have several
of the FIST leather holsters (small of back, SOB) and
they are well made as well.

I think their web site is http://www.fistholsters.com

I've used Fist and Don Hume clip on style holsters. My experience is they work better with small revolvers than semi-autos. The weight distribution of a revolver is centered in the cylinder area which is about the same height as the holster clip when compared to the belt. This provides for a stable condition.
When carrying a semi-auto particularly with a fully loaded double stack magazine most of the gun's weight is above the holster's belt clip causing the clip to act as a fulcrum. In short I found the clip on holster did not securely hold my Glock 19 allowing it to move back and forth instead of keeping it where I wanted. You may not find this a problem particularly if you carry IWB.
If you are looking at a clip on for easy on and off you may want to consider a paddle style as an alternative. If had good luck with Fist and Desantis paddle styles.
My 2 cents.

Fobus makes some real nice, inexpensive paddle holsters that are so comfortable, you can wear them even without a belt.

I have a Fist IWB for a G27, works pretty well. I made the mistake of getting a Galco IWB for my G30, only bad thing I have ever gotten from Galco. It is the cheap 'floppy' one that costs 25 bucks or so. I have heard good things about the Fobus paddles, I have a set on order now.

Thanks for the leads. Another question along this same
line. Do you know of any fanny pack equivalent style
that clip to a belt for CCW use?

I have a High Noon Hideaway belt clip IWB that works nicely with my Ruger P95. The rough side of the leather is on the outside, keeps it from shifting around.

Another vote for the Talon plus. I actually broke the clip one day and found out Lou Alessi warrantys them for life. MWT
