Clarification of MIM parts...

MIM parts seems to be a naughty word around firearms, with pistols especially. I don't know the exact process, but is it an inferior process due to internal inconsistencies?
Also, when you guys and gals replace MIM parts with the likes of "latest and greatest", are they usually manufacured from billet or are they forged, etc?

I'm asking from any type of gun, either rifle or pistol etc.

There are too many variables to make generalizations .Made properly of the right alloys, heat treated properly ,used in appropriate applications and they will be fine.
