carbon fiber cleaning rod

Hey Forum Folks,

Question(s): Would a small diameter carbon fiber arrow shaft work for a cleaning rod on a short barreled, .45 cal. rifle? Would the camo finish on the shaft be any kind of an adequate protectant of the bore's rifling? Would an uncoated carbon fiber arrow shaft be harmful to the rifling? Haven't tried this, but was just wondering what the thoughts were out there.

Thanks,

Thanks laytonj1,

I've seen the rods you mentioned, but have never really looked into what they were composed of. I've got an old stainless steel, Parker Hale rod I've used forever, and I was just thinking of making a segmented, packable cleaning rod for in the field (daypack friendly) for a 45/70, and was just thinking about making one from old, broken carbon fiber arrow shafts that I keep for whatever use they might have. Maybe a portable cleaning rod...just might give it a go.

Thanks for the info,

reinert
