In Canada ...

The Canadian Justice Dept does not recognise military training as a subsitute for the requisite "Canadian Firearms Safety Course" needed to obtain a firearms "Possession and Acquisition Licence" (Canadian gun licence). I have been trained to use the FNC1A1 (7.62 Semi Auto), FNC2A1 (7.62 Full Auto), C7 Rifle (5.56 Select Fire), Browning 9mm Hi Power and the Sterling Patchet 9mm SMG, yet still had to take the "civil" course in order to obtain my licence. I handle 20mm ammunition all day at work yet I still have to present my "PAL" licence at the local hardware store to pick up a brick of 22LR. As a matter of fact, a civilian firearms instructor once told me that they love getting military personal to run through the civilian course so they can teach them "proper" weapons handling ...

Hmmm. Sounds like bureaucrats are arrogant no matter what country!
