Can anyone tell me how to use a Dewey chamber tool? For AR15

I bought a dewey chamber tool and it comes with this neat little silver attachment. Looks like a silver rod with a 1/2" hole in it. It also came with 50 cotton swabs. This is for the locking lug recess. I said oh hey this must work well....Stuck in in through the back of the upper receiver and when I got to the locking lugs it wouldnt go past the teeth to get into the recess area so I could swab the junk out. Am I using it wrong? Can someone help me understand how to use this part of the tool?

I just use a chamber brush on my AR. It has a larger brush part at the back for the lug area.

Put the swab thru the hole and pull the rod with the swab back into the guide. Slide the guide into the upper till it stops then push the handle forward and turn. The swab will slide out of the guide right into the lug recess.
