California C&R question

I'm trying to purchase a pistol that should be C&R from a seller in California. I informed him I have an 03 FLL and reside in Kentucky and would like it shipped to me. I got this reply;

The law says . "In California, the only firearms a Type 03 FFL holder can receive directly are C&R rifles and shotguns that are over 50 years old. They do not have to be on the C&R List." I do not know if this qualifies for pistols, as well.

What's the validity of this? Has anyone else had problems rescuing pieces out of California?

He's confusing importing C&Rs into California with shipping them out. An 03 can hand carry C&R pistols into CA but cannot have C&R pistols shipped to him - that's state law. Just more weirdness designed to make owning guns as miserable as possible.
