Bullet Hold Reduction

Some folks shoot with a 0.001" interference fit. A lot of case necks don't size quite as small after they get work-hardened, and it doesn't seem to have much effect. We'd expect it to reduce bullet pull which could adversely impact ignition consistency and lower peak pressure a little by letting go of the bullet sooner in the rise of the pressure curve. But I've never evaluated it in an organized way.

It is my experience that die neck diameters .002" less then loaded round neck diameters cause about .001" interference fit. Case neck springs back a little, measure the sized case necks to verify.

People have reloaded the same 308 Win case several dozen times never annealing it. One guy put 57 shots in a dime size group at 100 yards.

The least amount of interference fit, or bullet pull force in reality, that lets ammo survive the trip from seating die to chamber then firing is best for accuracy. I've used .001" to get bullet pull force down to a pound or two.
