Brass question

The residue on my .45 Colt reloads is evenly distributed on the brass after firing and easy to remove. I was examining some .45 Colt range brass I picked up today and the Hornady was pretty clean while the Winchester had heavy residue isolated on one spot and was somewhat difficult to remove.. I have noticed other calibers occasionally have a very dark residue isolated to one spot. What would cause a "burn" in just one spot?

I think that if you have a lower-pressure load that doesn't expand/seal the case against the chamber walls fully, you can get some combustion gases blow back between the case and the chamber wall. The shape and location of the resulting burn mark would depend on the chamber geometry. I get the same marks on my .380 brass with light loads:
