Bodyguard .380 Good Now??

Happy with the reliability of my LCP but would like a little more shooting comfort sometimes.

My Bodyguard 380 from 2011 was problematic, but I keep reading that they are better now. Is this true?

If so, what were the fixes?

And is there a serial number range or starting number for the "Fixed" Bodyguards? A number of stores, I have found, have rather old stock. DON'T want another of the old, bad Bodyguards....

What problems are you looking for them to have fixed?

Heavy trigger? Probably not fixed.

Wonky laser activation? Probably not fixed.

Firing pins breaking? Hopefully fixed, but I don't know.

mine's been flawless, but it's also from 2011. My understanding is that most of the issues were very early on. You might have just gotten a lemon.

This gets my vote too. Mine's actually a 2010 gun but it's been flawless from the jump. My dad had one of the lemons though; S&W replaced it in 2011 and his has been perfect since.

I just bought mine earlier this year in March or so. Lot's of rounds through it. NO PROBLEMS. Trigger. NO PROBLEMS. Laser. Point of aim=point of impact at about 7-10 yds. right out of the box. VERY HAPPY with it. I use it as my EDC gun.

I had one for 24hrs, traded in the next day, unfired. It had a hair trigger magazine release button. The slightest touch on the mag release button would eject the mag. To me, this was uneceptable, the second rule in a gun fight is to have bullets.

Thanks for the replies. Will look into a bit more. With the great Smith warranty service, maybe not too much risk trying again.

I got mine back in January of this year and it has been flawless and I am very happy with it. I carry it every day.

How much are you really going to shoot it during one session? I don't think I ever shoot more than 50 rounds at a time.

Try one of the hogue grips, either the slip-on sleeve or the one you install. You have a good gun, why make a change if you don't really need to?

Yes there is a serial number to look for, sorry cant recall what they start with, but when I looked before buying I found it using google. On phone otherwise a I'd look for it for you.

Thanks. Actually the Pachmayr Tactical Grip Glove has helped alot with my LCP.

I actually compared my LCP with a rental BG 380 last week, and the felt-recoil difference wasn't as great as I remembered. Out of the box, the Smith is definitely better, but the add-ons close the gap for the LCP....

S&W do have really great customer service. They would make it right if you get a lemon. 9mms are close to the same size however.

While I really like the S&W BG... I still can't get over how heavy the trigger pull is! The gun already has an external safety.... does it really need a 20lb trigger pull?

Just saying ;)
