Birthdate for K-frame Model 19 S&W

Came across the old warrior many years ago.
Like to know the year when this 4" blue model was made.
The serial # is 792XX.

Thinking about using it as trade fodder (see previous thread).
Any help or advice is always appreciated.

Does the ser no have a "K" in front of it?

If so, this revolver dates back to mid-1949. It "appears" to be a pre-M19, called the .357 Combat Magnum.

I would advise you NOT to trade this but to get it appraised, you might have a valuable item in your possession.

Can you double-check the ser no and possibly post a picture? If you were close enough I would be interested.

Read a little more in Supica and Nahas' "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" and I have to amend my earlier post.

This does not appear to be a pre-M19 since that model was introduced in 1955. Are you sure that it is a .357 Magnum?

We definitely need to know if the ser no has a letter prefix and the caliber.

oops, my mistake Frosty...

This afternoon, a friend (who collects S&W revolvers) informed me
that I have a Model 13, not a 19.
There's a D2 in front of the serial # which indicates that it was probably made in 1975.
SO it is perfect trading fodder after all, along with whatever else I can scrounge up.

Glad we were able to clear this up. A Model 13, while a nice gun in itself, is good trading fodder. I had a nice one for years until I found something I wanted even more myself.
