One night I got off duty in the Gulf of Tonkin at midnight and me and a buddy went up to the top deck of the Long Beach to watch the air strikes. while we were there we heard a low rumbling to the south. Both of us commented on the thunder "but where is the lightning?". Next day we learned that the New Jersey had been firing about 100 miles south of us. VERY impressive noise!
Ever see the one with the battleship - was it the Arizona?- when all the turrets were turned the same direction and fired simultaneously? The pic is taken almost birds' eye view off the port side, IIRC. You can see the wake of the ship being "pushed" sideways in the water - I was told 16-20 feet!
Where do I buy a turret for my yard?
Wouldn't it be great to have a 16 inch turret mounted in your back yard? I would just claim it was playground equipment for the children I don't have. That way when I go coyote calling out on the ranch a few miles away, I can call in rounds on coyotes that are shy and don't want to come into the call. Ahhhh. What a dream.
