Beretta vs. Taurus

Simple question:
Am I wrong in choosing my Beretta 92FS over whatever the Taurus 9mm equivalent is? I know that the Taurus is like an Exact copy of the 92FS, but HOW exact? A friend has humored me about my decision, but I trusted that the Beretta would deliver better performance... or did I just like the big name??? If you have experience with both these guns, please let me know what you think... and as a side question... If the Stainless 92FS is made in Italy, the blued made in US, Could one tell a difference in quality between the two?

Go to www.greent.com/beretta and after you read the armorer's notes, you'll be glad you choose the US-Made Beretta. KEEP THE LOCKING BLOCK OILED AND enjoy! Ask any other company if they fire all their 9mm products with a 60K+PSI proof load and then magnaflux for stress or cracks. Additionally, there are NO STAMPED OR CAST PARTS ON A CURRENT RUN 92 FS. All components are machined from a solid block of steel. Many bemoan the slide mounted safety/decocker. I find that it is well-designed and unobtrusive. There are Beretta's available with the frame mounted versions. BTW, those SEAL Berettas were fired 6,000 to 7,000 times with 9mm ammo in the 65K-70K PSI range before the slides split in half. The SEALS have ordered another round of Berettas so something must be right. As for those who say price was the issue, don't for one minute think that the other suiters would not have dropped the price for the volume business.

ROFL!! SEALs buying another round of M9s! Quality machining! LOL! All my SEAL friends shoot SIGs...all of us Army SFers would like to take our broken Berettas and equip our potential enemies with 'em. Just understand that there are a lot of careers and egos involved in the military procurement biz... no one wants to admit to buying a ****. 92FS/M9 is okay for nightstand use and recreational shooting, but is not the sword in the stone for anyone doing a lot of high round count usage. The Beretta isn't a terrible pistol...it just isn't reliable in the long haul...kinda like the M60 GPMG (thankfully replaced by a MAG 58 clone). Ask the SEAL community about the Brigadier Slide Kit fix (that they didn't take) and the same contract foisted on the Army SOF community. Pros who rely on pistols as primary armament (and who have a choice)DON'T use Berettas. Think about it...

I agree with Unicron. If it works well for you in performance and handling, why would it matter what anyone else thinks of your choice? Learn to use and appreciate it. Unless you're in a hard core organization as the SEALS, SF, etc. where absolute performance with possibly very hot ammo is a life or death issue, your Beretta will probably work out fine for you in normal shooting.

I don't have a Baretta but I do have a Taurus PT-99AF which has shot very well. Only a handful of FailToFeed on reloads over a few thousand rounds. I also have a few SIGs and HKs that I also like very much. Certainly, in my opinion, they are better guns but they also cost quite a bit more.

My apologies for not sticking to the question. I get kinda carried away. I must also admit that my own issue M9 has peevishly refused to fail on me (although almost every other M9 in my unit has crapped out). That said...The Taurus used to be a good pick if you liked some carry options that Beretta did not originally offer (cocked and locked / slide vs. frame mounting of decocker, etc.). Taurus makes really fine handguns...so does Pietro Beretta. It boils down to finding the particular model/features you like...both brands being about equal. Taurus still has the edge on retail price. If you already own the Beretta, why worry about it?

From what i understand the taurus is made of a lesser quality metal. and if you pick up the taurus and the beretta and rack the slide you will see the diffrence. the taurus feels like fisher price made it. Stick with the high quality beretta. The 92 is an awesome gun. fire it until it jams. then come back and tell us about it. I wont be holding my breath.

Now if i could only gey my hands on a centurion in stainless. I have yet to see one !

All I can say is that I really like my Beretta. Over 3000 rounds through it in less than 1 year and the only time it has not performed well was when I failed to keep the slide oiled. It has otherwise performed flawlessly and has been more accurate than some critics have suggested it would be. I am sure you will be happy with yours. A very well made gun.

Can you honestly expect me to beleive that "all" of your "SEAL" buddies have broken M9's laying around somewhere? I mean, common... Seriously, I know that hype is rampant, but you can't tell me that the Beretta 92FS has built a solid repuation, and earned SEVERAL government contracts if it truely falls apart after a few thousand rounds. Your friends may choose Sigs, THAT I could beleive, but let's be realistic. Think about it...

No need to offer apologies for zeal, passion or vigor here! After all, we are firearms owners. Enthusiasm and the will to provide for our own safety is part of the mantra. I just thank God we live in a land where we can have these heated debates! Carry on!

I owned both pistols. Purchased the Taurus 92 in '89. Very well made, no MF in over 7000rds and I liked being able to carry it cocked and locked. The Beretta 92 I owned was in no way superior to the Taurus. No MFs with it either (~5,000rds).
Fit and finish were about equal between the two. The Taurus was the more accurate of the two. Price defintely in Taurus' favor.
Main thing was both pistols were "combat" accurate and 100% reliable.

Beretta Boy, Im going to have to agree with Chindo18Z, I like the Beretta design and feel of the gun, but I have heard alot of complaints of Berettas not being reliable. From relatives in the Army to articles in magazines. But if you want a Beretta or Taurus I'd go with the Beretta

Pros use 1911`s.I`ve shot the M-9 and the Tauras. They are easy to shoot well.I did not see a practacal difference.Tiny little springs, and parts.Idiot proof action. No terminal ballistics.
