I'm not sure this is where to put this question. So, if this is the wrong place, let me know and I'll move it.

Does anyone know what the ballistic coefficent is for the 172 grain M72 bullet used in the match ammo?

thanks.

I have to wonder...

Joe,

I grabbed my copy of Hatchers Handbook, and was able to find a reference to this bullet. The stated BC was .56 - and this is what makes me wonder.

When I look at the advertised BC of (what I consider to be) a very similar bullet - Sierra's 175 gn HPBT, I see this figure: .505 above 2800 fps. Given what I've learned about bullets and BC's, the fact that a slighly lighter bullet of the same caliber having a better BC is what makes me wonder.

Of course, BC has a lot to do with shape, so that is where the differences might be found. I need to place these two together to see if there are any really noticable differences. When it's all said and done, I personally would use the Sierra BC as a starting point for my figures, and move on from there.

Good Luck!
