"Baby" Eagle .45

Longshot

I posted on this recently.

I went down and picked one up on Wednesday. I really, really like this pistol! I dropped by the range yesterday and put 100 rounds through it. Recoil wasn't noticable using 230 grain Blazers. It fit just right in my hand. I also like the decocking feature. I am not an expert shooter by any means, but I easily kept tight COM groups out to 25 yards. The armorers at the range could not believe that I only paid $400 for it (new). It was $430 initially, but they had marked it down before I returned to buy it.

Anyway, you can check it out here if you want to:

Cool, I didn't realize they made a .45 version. I knew the baby eagle 9mm was a copy of the CZ 75, does this mean the .45 version is a copy of the CZ 97 ? Doesn't look that way from the pics, either way, nice looking gun, great price.

Baby Eagle

Longshot, Congrats on your new purchase, I hope it serves you well.
I to have a Baby Eagle but mine is the 9mm version. I really like it and was surprised how well it shot out of the box.
I purchased this on a whim and I'm glad I did. I feel it's
quite a good gun for the money ;)

Happy Shooting :)

It does look nice, just not like the ones I've seen before. Past ones were similar to a Witness/CZ, if I understood correctly they had a lot of Tanfoglio (sp) parts. This looks different, like a Desert Eagle on a diet.

Neat. If they had a SA with a conventional safety I might have to spring for one.

Longshot, thanks for the review. How would you describe the grip size... any comparsions to "everyday" pistols would be helpful.

bk40,

The grip size is between Glock 19/23 and a 17/22. The magnum research website lists this model as a semi-compact, placing it in the middle of the Baby Eagle size range.

From what I have found on the 'net, this is basically a CZ inspired handgun. The extra metal around the barrel supposedly helps reduce muzzle flip compared to its cousins.

Here are some size specs:

Baby Eagle .45 http://www.magnumresearch.com/
Length 7.75 inches
Heighth 5.75 inches
Width 1.13 inches

(This required a trip to onlineconversion.com)
CZ97B http://www.czub.cz/PISTOLA.HTM
Length 212mm = 8.35 inches
Heighth 150mm = 5.9 inches
Width 35mm = 1.38 inches

The CZ97B is a little bigger, and does not have a decocker. The magazine capacity is the same.
The .45 Witness (which I also considered) has an 8 round magazine.

I guess the funny thing is that I left my house on the morning I bought this with $450 in my wallet intending to pick up a Kel-Tec P32 and a vacuum cleaner.

I still don't have a vacuum cleaner :D

Congrats on the new purchase! I have a Magnum Research pistol too. Albeit, it's the .50 AE and I love it!
