Average hand size / finger reach?

Anyone know what the average/consensus measurements are on this subject?

Like car manufacturers engineer ergonomics around their version of "average" - for example I've never been able to "fit" in a honda product.

Just finding that on certain guns (mostly semi-autos) I have a hard time both gripping well (one-handed) and positioning my index finger in a position conducive to a good "pull" position.

There must be a ton of hand length / girth research, and what grips / gun manufacturers work best where.

Thoughts?

Apparently, John Browning was about average.:D

Seriously, there probably is a ton of research, but I never tried to find it. I just pass on guns that 'don't feel right', and stick with ones that do. I also usually end up buying grips that make acceptable weapons fit me better. I guess that's why I have a bunch of surplus grips around somewhere...

I'm rather small handed. Sometimes this makes trouble with DA handguns. The distance between back-strap and trigger should not exceed 3'' , for me. Of course, ergonomy is another factor.
