wAs seeing every caliber under the sun for 6 pages except .270win. so here is a .270 thread. Is there a better powder for .270win than h4831(sc)? heard of using h4350 or h414 but have no experience in this.

I've never been a fan of 4831. For 270, I usually get out the IMR4350 but the IMR4064 and 760 also works good.

There are no 'magic' powders for any cartridge. Any more than a 'magic' bullet weight. Every rifle is different.

No! 4831 is the powder for 270.

Those faster burning powders seemed to go into over pressure way before approaching the published maximums when I was working up a load for my 270.

.270?

I have used H4831 in my .270 Savage 110 for years, and in my opinion, it is hard to beat. With a load of 60 grains of H4831sc, behind a 130 grain Speer BTSP, I get about 3100 FPS, and a half inch MOA @ 100 yards. Jack O'Connor, according to some reports, used 62 grains of H4831 to push a 130 grain bullet, but I have been unable to find any loading manuals with this information, and I certainly am not advocating loading higher than any maximum loads posted in manuals! Most of the manuals I have seen list 60 grains as the MAX for a 130 grain bullet, with some listing lower maximums! As with ANY loads, these max loads should be worked up to with caution!
