Are no-lock S&W 642s still available?

Hi everyone,

My local gun store currently doesn't have a no-lock 642 -- only a 442 -- and I'm wondering if a limited run of no-lock revolvers has now dried up. Are you folks seeing any new specimens?

I have a few old Smiths and some new Smiths.

Take a look at the left side of current production S&W revolvers. You will see a hole for the internal lock that can be used to disable the gun. There have been reports of internal lock failures that have occurred while shooting on the range, rendering the gun inoperable. Thanks for the replies. Hmm. Perhaps I should leap on that 442 as soon as I get back to my home state...if it's still there.

I just saw the 442 on the website. Is this in response to some of the complaints about the internal lock? While I'm not all that worried about a failure, I think it would be nice if the version with no lock is the only one they offered.

I hope this is a bigger trend. I think I'd like to trade mine for one with no lock.

It's my understanding that the current lockless J-Frames are a limited run. S&W had some pre-lock frames that they decided to go ahead and assemble into complete revolvers but once they're gone, they're gone.
