i live in new york and have a bushmaster carbon 15. the normal collapsable stock is pinned on mine so it is ny legal. i was wondering how i would go about changing it to a non collapsable A2 style stock? or any other non adjusting stock. would i have to get a new buffer tube?

You would need the following parts:

Rifle length receiver extension (aka buffer tube)
Rifle style buffer
Rifle action spring
Fixed stock of your choice

It's a very simple swap though- the only catch is to not launch the buffer retaining pin (on the inside of the lower receiver) or lose the takedown pin spring and detent (goes out the back of the lower) when you make the swap.

Yep, just slowly unthread the collapsible stocktube and be sure to watch the buffer spring retainer with your thumb.

A bonus to the fixed stock is you don't have to worry about aligning it vertically, too. Just thread that bad boy in until the lip on the tube covers the buffer retainer.

NY legal Bushmaster AR15

Seansean1444,

I am interested in all you had to do to make your bushmaster carbon 15 NY legal. I will be moving back to upstate NY in about a year and have a Bushmaster carbon 15. So far I invested $62 in a full A2 stock I picked up at a gun show, everything included.

Just a heads up . Some makers stake the castle nut . If it's staked and you try to take the nut off you can damage the lower and or break the but stock wrench .

Check out PSA for the Magpul MOE Rifle Stock Kit. About the same price as what you'd pay for an A2. It feels and looks so much better.

Marquez beat me to it. I have an MOE stock on my target A2 and like it quite a bit. Pick one up if you have the funds laying around.
