AR Sling Options

Can anyone school me on sling options and choices for the AR platform? Recently built my first one and have been trying to research sling options.

So what do you guys prefer? My Fortis Rev has QD mounts in two locations. I would need to get a new mount plate near the buffer tube if that is the standard location. I have the std Magpul stock too FYI

I prefer a sling that can go from a one point to a two point sling and back like the Magpul MS1-4 slings. I started with the MS1 clip/hook type and just recently switched over to the MS4 duel QD type which I like much better for a few reasons of which are, a lot of stock and rail makers are incorporating a QD socket in the design of them so its less adapters to buy and also a smoother streamlined look and feel compared to the clip/hook connectors.

Pardon my ignorance, but where does that sling attach to? It would need a QD mount right at the buttstock collar?

I have the std MOE buttstock.

This is the one I use there are other makes, but I like the simplicity of the Noveske QD end plate.

I use a Vickers Combat Applications Sling (VCAS) from Blue Force Gear - http://www.blueforcegear.com/vickers-pb-slings-metal-hardware.html

My M4s are equipped with MagPul CTR buttstocks and, being right handed, I attach the ball lock sling swivel directly into the socket on the right side of the buttstock.

I attach the front of the sling to the left side of the handguard, right in front of the receiver, as I find this keeps the sling clear of my support hand.

I don't like sling attachments directly above the pistol grip as I find them annoying.

Good luck!

I ended up ordering the Troy QD plate that covers the castle nut and the Magpul MS4 sling. Guess I will check it out and see how I like it. Luckily there are plenty of options available.

I use a Mamba Geronimo sling.. it has its weaknesses, but works very well for my use. It holds the rifle at a low ready automatically, and provides excellent support when you are shooting offhand. It is not the greatest for everything, and being a 3 point sling it does tend to get in the way a little bit when you break the rifle down for cleaning, but not too badly. I might add a qrs clip at the rear to facilitate removing part of the sling for that purpose.
