AR gas tube question

I'm working on building my first AR and I'm running into a problem.

The bolt carrier won't seat forward fully and I think that my gas tube is the problem. From what I've seen on other AR's, the gas tube should only come out to about halfway past the cutout for the cam pin (semi-circle on left inside of receiver from tip of gas tube). Mine comes out almost past the cutout.

Any Ideas? Can you cut down a gas tube? If the pin is in the gas tube, I guess there's no way it can be pushed in any further.

What is your barrel length?

There are 3 different gas tube lengths: carbines, mid-length, and rifles. You may have the wrong gas tube.
