I have an AR build that's roughly 90% done, all it needs is a BCG and a charging handle. I'm just wondering if there's anything else I need to do before I start shooting it.

And before you ask, yes, there will be pictures and a list of parts used, I know how this place is with things like this. :D

Make sure...this is important now....make sure the charging handle is a BCM gunfighter:D

Not really..as long as the head space is good...all manufacturing gunk (cutting oil, grease other crap) is cleaned for sure from the barrel, feed ramp and receivers...good to go. Make sure the gas block is on good (if applicable). Buddy of mine didn't crank the set screws down on his very good while building and on it's maiden voyage, it became a single shot after round four I believe...very disappointing range day for him.

Don't worry, we're on the same page with the Gunfighter handle. I have one in my other AR, and I love it.

I'll definitely give the gas block another look just in case.

With your first shot... load only one round in the magazine. Chamber it and pull the trigger. After the BCG locks back, check the bolt, chamber and ejected case for condition. If all looks well... press on.

As there are a boatload of DIY AR builders out there that don't have chamber go/no gauges... the assumption being that no one could possibly screw up a barrel extension or bolt, I'm more concerned about case stretch and possible separation than anything else.
The plan is not to feed another round into the chamber until you've confirmed the gun cycled, extracted and ejected properly... and that the case has no obvious signs of injury.

Safer than sorrier and all that...

Just as important is using a dummy round #2 in the mag to determine that the hammer stays cocked and doesn't follow the bolt.

Sorry for the bad pic.

Vltor upper
Midwest Industries 15" handguard
BCM 18" SS barrel
JP Enterprises muzzle brake
Leupold Mark 4 3-10x40
Burris P.E.P.R mount
Harris bipods
PSA lower
Mako grip
Armalite LPK
Gissele DMR trigger

BCM BCG and Gunfighter charging handle en route, I might change out the A2 stock with a PRS. The roommate is also a gun guy and insisted on Duracoating it, so I figure why not.

Thanks. The BCG and the charging handle came today, so I'm thinking the next step is to take it to a gunsmith just to give it a once-over so there's no surprises when I hold it up to my face and set off small explosions with it.
