Never heard of "sota". Sounds like he sota needs to figure that out!

In general, I believe PSA is a good name, but $800 is good money...he ain't losing anything. I think you could buy a real PSA new for $800.

I would pass. You could buy a new one for that much that isn't somebody's frankenrifle with mystery parts and possibly assembled improperly.

You could also buy individual parts and assemble it yourself that way you get to pick and choose each component. I'm assuming you don't have the tools to assemble one so that would be an added expense. Though, if you plan to do a lot of shooting you will need those tools anyway for maintenance and repair purposes.

I beleive there are 2 companies that have Palmetto in there names . One is Palmetto state armory (PSA) . The other is palmetto arms or firearms co . I do not know if they are related , if they split , one went bankrupt and started over or have nothing to do with each other . It is my understanding that there is or was 2 firearms companies that have the word Palmetto in the name .

IMO, $800 for a used frankenrifle with unknown parts is NOT a "buy" proposition. There are some that might be a decent deal at that price, but the makers would have to be known and the condition great.

I looked.

Meh. 1 in 9 twist, no specifics listed on the steel used, am not sure (doesn't say), but it looks like they don't necessarily even cut the gas port, which then makes me wonder if whoever DID do it did a decent job of it.

What I'm seeing on their site is low priced barrels of no real special or impressive nature (they might be great, but this is the first I've heard of them and the folks known for super high quality tend to dump specs on you, not just provide little more than an ordering page), maybe even aimed at those who OEM rifles requiring a few more steps than the common parts swapper.* That then makes me wonder who put the rifle together... if his/her skill level isn't a known and trusted quantity, that to me makes it worth even less.

*No offense intended to common parts swappers. I'm one. I can assemble pieces of ARs all day with a smile on my face and a song in my heart. But I don't drill gas ports or taper pin holes for a FSB. A man's got to know his limitations.
