Anyone Reload for 41 Magnum?

I just got a barely used Ruger Blackhawk 6 1/2 inch bbl in 41 magnum. I will need to reload for it as factory ammo seems very expensive if it is available at all. I already reload for 44 mag and use H110 and Win296. Any favorite loads out there?

Yes, I have a 4" Model 58 Military & Police.

I can't tell you off the top of my head what my loads are, but I've loaded using WW 231 for lighter loads and for heavier loads 296 and AA 7.

Of the three powders in .41 I think I like the AA 7 the most, which is unfortunate as it leaks through my powder measure.

Sure. I've got loads for you. Just bear in mind that these are max. and don't reduce the 296 loads more than 3%. 210 RP JSP 20.4 of 296 with mag. primer in WW case. 200 gr. JHP 21.5 of 296 with mag. primer. Lyman #410459 220 gr. PB SWC with 20.4 of 296, mag. primer. Size all cast bullets to .410. Lyman 410459 with 19.0 of 2400. Lyman 410610 GC bullet over 17.5 of 2400. Same bullet with 20.4 of 296 and mag. primer. The Lyman 410459 with 9.0 of IMR SR4756. The RCBS bullet will shoot great, but the chambers on your Ruger are shorter than a S&W so you can't load all 6 chambers with the RCBS bullet; the front driving band will hang up on the forcing cone in the chamber. If you want midrange loads, use 9.0 of Unique with the plainbase bullets. Lyman 41032 is a 212 gr, SWC that will allow you to load all 6 chambers at once. Hope this helps. If you want a fun load, try 24.0 of H110 and the 170 Sierra JHC. Enjoy. CB.

Back when I reloaded my favorite load for my 4" M-57 was 7.5 grains of
Unique with a 210 SWC. Initially I used 8 grains but I noted some unburned
powder residue, cut back to 7.5 with no loss of accuracy.

Reloading for a .41 Magnum

I have been reloading for 37 years.
There is one thing you must know:
There are 2 types of reloads...S&W loads and Ruger loads.
I reload for my 2 S&W 657s using 2400 and UNIQUE.
I used 4227 in Rugers, in the past.

I like 17.5 gr of 2400 under a 170gr JHP.

I also like 20.0gr of 2400 with a 170JHP on top. This is my personal load I use in My Taurus Tracker. I suggest you work up to it.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I currently have H110, W296 and Unique. May have to try some of the others too. Looks like it is time to order some Starline brass from Midway USA.

I've always liked the 18.0/2400 and a 240 gr SWC (from the old Lee mould). Magnum primers are a little too much, so if you use them cut back to 17.5, to keep pressures in range. Cast bullets need to be .411 to do the best (depending on what your bore measures.)

Enjoy it!

My old reloading notes have the following recipes;

215gr LSWC - 9.2 gr Unique - regular primer - est: 1100 fps
215gr LSWC - 8.5 gr Unique - regular primer - 1070 fps
220gr JSP - 10.0 gr Unique - regular primer - 1135 fps
220gr JSP - 20.0 gr WW296 - Magnum primer - 1270 fps
220gr JSP - 19.0 gr H110 - Magnum primer - 1265 fps

Note: Highlighted loads are max loads. Work up to these loads cautiously.

I don't gascheck mine, which are cast from wheelweights. Shoot them lubed, as cast, (not sized) and get good accuracy and performance from them.

It's nice to see someone else taking an interest in the .41 Mag. It's kinda the "Rodney Dangerfield" of handgun cartridges, and deserves better than it's gotten over the years.

I use the same Unique @71/2 under 210 hard cast lead swc as SIGSHR uses in my old S&W #57 6''bbl for hog hunting.
Accurate and deadly. Why this caibre never caught on is beyond me.
Have fun reloading this round.
