From Military surplus. Says rating is same as H-110. I've found some $54 for 8 lbs. Sounds like a great price, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with it or any comments about using surplus powders?

Thanks,

Richard

I got to this site from similar pages looking for 5m.m. Rem. Rim. Graf&Sons,7/11/08. Thought a reply helpfull. Now member firingline, finding post to be 9.3 years old! Anyhow 48 Lb. W-C 820 ago,it keeps forever, pretty non hydroscopic,so volume weights dont vary, measures on the dot every time.Needs to be about 75% density to light up a good burn.Dont need mag primers,(ball powder),winch's are made for it,std,O.K.,mags for 70 gr. or so up.. The stuff was pulled from G.-I. ouch-sixes. Have lot #47289,their's. Mill lot# baj47289. Have run from 28 gr.-38 gr. in 30-40 and am still here. Data sheet states,''a little slower than H-414''. Jugs say,"10% slower than h-414". Specific charges per caliber not to be exceeded or reduced without firstshooting as listed and then modified if necessary, cautiously and in small increments. Cals. .243-.338 info furnished. Have used H-414 data as guide for 30- 30, 30-40, 30-06, .308, 8mm mau. and .375H&H. Stick to Mr. Hodgdons views on ball powder, with a pinch of that scarry winchester info and it should keep you out of orbit! Ball powder has lower flame front temp. and is easier on throats and lands. For what the use and compared to todays $20.00 per Lb. it's very nice propelant! Hope you still have some left. As for 5-m.m. Rem. Rim Fire. Western Scrounger and Cheaper than Dirt have it for $18.00 a box! $75.00 a box was a little high! Better late than never for bofum.

I don't have any personal experience with it since it's so tough to ship powder to the individual consumer in Alaska, but from what I've read it's somewhere between AA#9 and H110/W296. I would start with AA#9 data and work up. If you started with H110 data and your lot turns out to be real close to AA#9 you could be in for an unpleasant surprise.

You might checkout the Surplus Powder forum at castboolits.gunloads.com too.
