Anschutz

I have an anschutz 1433 mannlicher stock 22 hornet made in 1974. Should it have Savage Arms on the receiver, I believe they were the importer in that time period. It is marked JG ANSCHUTZ not Savage.

You would think so, a Google says Savage was in cahoots with Anschutz from 1963 - 1981. MY rifle of that era is marked Savage-Anschutz.

But maybe Savage wasn't the EXCLUSIVE importer for the US at the time.
Or maybe a home market model leaked through without the Savage stamp.

Hard to know after 36 years. Hard for me to tell the significance.

(I have seen Anschutz - Savage rifles on the 110 action for the European market and own an Anschutz - Miroku shotgun that is a kissing cousin to a Citori. They were getting around in those days.)

My guess, it was purchased in Germany back in '74 and somehow made it to the USA. That way, no importer needed. Information on this subject seems a bit sparse.

That did not occur to me at the moment, but it is likely the case.
We had a lot of troops in Germany at the time and the PX Rod & Gun Shops did a good business.
A friend has a Shiloh Sharps with German proofs.
