One of the things we are going to do is make a pass through the exchange..that got me a-thinkin'..they sell guns there(pretty sure)..if you DO buy one, how do you get it outta the Exchange and off base legally..considering the
"Firearms are prohibited at all times."

Just curious, doubt I'll buy anything(maybe ammo)...

For the AF this is how it works for us - When you buy the gun the sales clerk carries it out to the front entrance, hands you the gun and informs you that you are not allowed to stop anywhere else on base. This assumes you do not live in base housing. If you live in base housing you are only allowed to take the gun from your quarters to off base and back. You are not allowed to stop anyplace else on base with it.

For your purposes, I would think that keeping it in its original package (maybe even sealed) along with the sales receipt would be important.

You'll sign a separate sheet along with the few other safety sheets that states you bought it on this day and have to get it registered after this day if you are bringing it back on the base or storing it on the base in housing. Since you won't be living on the campus you won't have to do anything else. Just make sure you know the rules for each base you go on, a lot of them are different... some require hard cases (even for rifles and shotguns), some do not. And they will escort you out of the store. lol

The Army is about the same. I've bought a couple of firearms on Fort Carson. We made it the last stop on post. The clerk carried it out and handed it to me. We then left the post immediately.

10-4, thanks..I'm betting that the sales guy knows how to handle a gun sale..'No Sales Tax' is pretty tempting depending on what they ask.

'No Sales Tax' is pretty tempting depending on what they ask .

That’s the trick. I have yet to find a bargain or anything reasonably priced for that matter at the BX/PX even without the sales tax.

The only thing I ever bought from the PX was a designer hand bag for my then fiance.

The gun counter at Stewart when I was there was comparable to Wal Mart in my opinion.

And when I was at Benning there was no real reason to shop there with Barrow's being so close.

Big box stores are cheaper unless there is a clearance or you live in a state with really high income tax. You can't win with a clearance most of the time though. Some of the retirees go to the PX every single day to buy stuff on clearance and sell at the flea market, EBAY or Guns America.

Easier than working I guess, maybe.

Answer, cuz I asked the young man behind the USAFA gun counter..you get your BGC and pay at the gun counter, he escorts you to the door, hands it off while making sure you don't live on base, won't load the thing and will drive off base immediately..Very trusting but it's the military so pretty good 'population'.
Prices were kinda high, $500 for a Glock 43x or 48, $550 for G19..no tax so 'kinda' a wash.
Ammo was high..$12 for 50 FMJ MagTec 9mm.
