Another Duracoat question

I'm going to be getting a new old stock Para-Ordnance receiver from Sarco. It's only available in "Dark Earth" color, and I want to make it black to match the slide that will be going on it. I have some experience with Gun Kote in the past, but my results were not good. I'm hoping Duracoat will be better.

Rather than mess with mixing and an air brush, I'm looking at the self-contained aerosol cans. Before I embark on this journey I have a couple of basic questions:

1. Out of the 200 (or so) colors available, which will be the closest/best match for the sort of matte or satin black that Para used on their early (Canadian) pistols? I'm fairly certain that "ParaKote" actually was Duracoat, but ... which color?

2. What kind of surface prep do I need to perform so the new Duracoat will adhere to whatever para used on their later Elite models?

3. How does one get the coating into inner areas like the inside of the mag well? I'd like to end up with a gun that looks like it came out the factory all black.

All tips appreciated.

What do you mean when you say your results were "not good" with Gun-Kote?

Did you prep/aluminum oxide blast and degrease all your parts correctly?

Gun-Kote is far superior to Duracoat IMO, ranking second only to Cerakote.

I used Gun-Kote years ago. It was a good product, but with a can it tends to get a little heavy. You have to watch what you use it on, but at the time it was the only game in town other than anodizing. It seemed to hold up as well as anodizing in a most applications.

I have had two revolvers done with Cerakote one last year one this year .
The first never did look nice and after a lot of hard use it is just ok . The second revolver came back looking much better and but has not been shot much .
I did use two different coaters the second use the same coating same color both Cerakote and it looks great the first gun not so much .

SO THE PERSON DOING THE COATING MAKES A DIFFERENCE
