Notice that there isn't a contact person nor address not affiliated with the 2 above named companies. If you trace TFL (or the vast majority of orgs, businesses, etc) you'll find Rich's name and his business address (or theirs)

Network Solutions is simply the registrar for about 7 million domain names. They are not affiliated with the policies and leaning of their customers. Anyone can purchase a domain name from Network Solutions for whatever reason. I know this as truth as I am in their employ.

That may be true, but this is the first time I've a whois refer back only to the server and the domain registrar and not the outfit that bought it. 6 months ago it wasn't the case; there was a contact affiliated with the buyer not the seller

So, as a NWS employee, whats the reason? Why aren't they forthcoming like everyone else is? What gives?

Here goes...What happens with some domains is this: when the person chooses to register, they can do a $70 option or a $119 option. With the $119 option, the server will reflect ours until such time as the registrant chooses to submit a host change and choose another ISP to host his site. People do this for a number of reasons, some not always on the level. We don't question the address credentials or information our customers use as we are not in the business of policing the net. If the numbers and such we receive work, and they run, and the money is forthcoming, we allow whomever to possess a domain name foe whatever reason. Netsol is very picky about releasing customer info as there are legal resons, as I'm sure you understand.

Network Solutions no longer gives zone contacts or billing information via WHOIS They stopped about a month ago. Nothing sinister, just a change of policy on NS's part. NICS is presently changing the way they do some things. The information will return, but in a different format. That is unless the Y2K bug get's 'em

Couldn't agree with you more...Everyone should be accountable, especially government and big businesses. Some of the policies here really get me hot, but I work here for other reasons, experience and proximity to my abode being the two best ones.

Egg, huh?
Like I never jumped to a conclusion before.

In the where there is smoke dept, though, somebody had to be behind the decision to change policy at NICS, and you have to wonder why. A lot of embarrassing hosts were popping up, like the one for the Atty. General/China link just before the new format took place.
