Air rifle

Mrs. Grymster told me on Tuesday to get the son-in-law an air rifle for his upcoming birthday. She told me not to spend more than $100 on it. I had planned to do some research, but didn't get to it yesterday. I did however, stop at Big 5 on the way home from work and they had air rifles on clearance, with an extra 25% off that. Thought I remembered reading some good stuff about Gamo and I spied a Hunter 220 w/scope in the rack. Had a $169 price tag on it and a clearance tag of $149. Another 25% off made for $112. I would like to have researched these a bit, but I took a chance and bought it. As far as I'm concerned it is plenty good enough for my son-in-law :D, but I'm wondering if I should go back and buy the last one for myself? So, are these things any good?

I have a Gamo hunter extreme. With PBA ammo it hits 1,650fps. It was expensive but so much fun in the yard.
My GF has a Gamo Whisper, also very nice and a lil cheaper
