Did I read that correctly or no? I thought I saw an age requirement....Are law enforcement exempt from certain advertisements for employees with regard to age?
Interesting... that wide of a spread for salaries though...They must really be creating a whole new branch.

"Candidates CANNOT be initially appointed to covered Federal law enforcement officer positions on or after their 37th birthday"

I saw an article that stated the Justice Dept. was interested in retired LEOs. This does not seem consistent with the requirement that the INITIAL appt to FEDERAL law enforcement occur before 37 years of age. Plus, if they are going to cover 20,000+ flights a day, they are going to have to relax the age requirements to get enough people. The best suggestion I have seen is for volunteer air marshals, who undergo the same training and are subject to the same requirements, but only fly a certain number of flights a week/month, and are not paid. If they want FAM on every flight, we're talking about a multi-billion dollar program.

...Exactly my point. Unless they will be hamstrung from the beginning by numbers, the "ideal" marshalls, will be many, many, many...Not just good but enough of them to prevent the natural attrition from ruining the whole program...
I'm seeing the merit of your suggestions and the public is just about all they can afford. It makes more sense to train all that are willing and have the general population be the "militia" as was intended originally. A few great trainers and the rest of us together...some basic "supplies" provided... and no more unarmed population traveling in constant fear, as well as, freeing up a great number of men of the age needed to man the posts elsewhere...not to mention saving several BILLION!!!

I was considering in applying if they want retired LEOs. I mean, how many terrs, would be looking for a SM being the grandfathery looking old coot? They will be looking for the young guys that look as if they could eat the air craft. However I would rather see any citizen carry his/her own pistol. Aircraft rated ammo supplied at the airport.
