I'm thinking I need a big bore rifle, maybe a .45/70, .450 Marlin, .444, something along that line. I'm not overly concerned about the price of the rifle, but I am the ammo. My recent price check on .45/70 ammo was a shock, and I was wondering if there is something that is ballisticly close, but more affordable when it comes to buying ammo????

There all going to be similar in price for factory ammo, expensive.45-70 being more readily available might be able to find it on sale.Reloading componets are more easily obtained for the 45-70.

I've never herd of cheap big bore ammo
IF you cast your own bullets and handload, it can get pretty cheap. Even using store bought components and handloading, it'll be about 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of commercial ammo.I've never herd of cheap big bore ammo
